Frequently the warmest place in the state
during winter, and a mild, temperate summer. These are just a couple of good
reasons to make Lakes Entrance your holiday destination. A
Mediterranean climate together with heaps to do and see, will make this a
memorable holiday on the water.
The man-made entrance allows the ocean to
mingle with the lakes and provides a safe harbour for reputedly the largest
fishing fleet in Australia. Catch your own fish for tea and try one of the
local wines along with your "catch of the day", or indulge yourself from one
of the many great restaurants along the harbour foreshore.
Wander over the footbridge to play in the
surf, or revel in the peace of the one of the many lakes that make up the
system of the Gippsland Lakes. Hire a boat - or bring your own; water-ski;
windsurf; try a canoe or the paddleboats, it's your choice of on-water fun.
Spend your day cruising the Lakes on one of the cruise boats, or try
offshore fishing with one of the boats licensed to take you through the
entrance.
So much to do. Watch a movie; visit the art
gallery; a game of mini golf ; visit the shell museum; or spend the day
trying your luck with the pokies. Take a nature walk or an historical walk
and visit the museum,
explore the forests and and see the prolific birdlife. Watch for the
dolphins as they come and go through the entrance and frolic among the boats
and keep an eye out for the occasional whale as it cruises along the coast.
There is year round bowling on synthetic
greens, a superb aquatic centre and gymnasium, squash courts and tennis
courts available. Lakes Entrance boasts two quality golf courses. A superb
18 hole links course, classified within the top 100 in Australia, and an
undulating, picturesque 9 hole course.
Visit the beautiful emerald waters of Lake
Tyers, or peaceful Lake Bunga, both just minutes from Lakes Entrance. Try a
day trip to fantastic Buchan caves; and for winter fun, Lakes Entrance is
just a couple of hours drive from the snow fields of Mt Hotham.
