Nowa Nowa is a perfect stopping
place for those travelling along the East Gippsland Rail Trail . From your
stopover in Nowa Nowa, you can choose to either leave the trail and push on
towards Orbost or take the Trail back to Bairnsdale.
Just outside Nowa Nowa, at
Stony Creek, is a railway bridge claimed to be one of the largest wooden
bridges still standing in Australia. It was constructed out of grey box and
red ironbark in 1916. It is 276 metres long and 18.6 metres high. |
|
There are forest drives, pretty
picnic spots and walks, including a track from the lakeside which leads to
Boggy Creek Gorge.
Nowa Nowa
(an aboriginal name for meeting
of the waters or Black stone) is situated at the Northern end of Lake Tyers.
It has two stores, an hotel, camp parks and a restaurant which houses
gemstones and unique natural sculptured wood artefacts. Nowa Nowa also has a
number of galleries featuring the work of local and internationally renowned
artisans. |
