  • As a member of the Association you obtain access to, and contribute to the promotion of commerce, business, industry and tourism in Town of Lakes Entrance and surrounds.

  • Participation in activities of East Gippsland Business and Tourism Association, representation on the Shire Tourism Advisory Board.

  • Regular updates on LEBTA activities by email distribution

  • Take part in the business and tourism marketing/promotions of the area both local and regional.

  • Networking with other people in business facing similar challenges in promoting and expanding their businesses.

  • Participating in a vast range of activities all associated with improving the ‘lot’ of people in business and commerce.

Current Activities

  • LEBTA manages two units (currently free of charge) that are used by The Cunningham Arm Medical Centre and Gippsland Lakes Community Health to provide free, or nominal fee accommodation to temporary stay Doctors. This service is extremely important to all the community.

  • LEBTA undertakes Australia day responsibilities with the support of the Lions Club and Shire.

  • LEBTA has agreed to be the Auspice agency for a proposed project to get a Safe Taxi Rank for after hours during times of high concern in Lakes Entrance.

  • LEBTA works tirelessly to liaise and to put the best interests of Lakes Entrance businesses forward to relevant government departments. For example, LEBTA is currently working with the Shire, Vic Roads and Tourism Victoria to improve the signage around the Nowa Nowa Bypass. Also recently forming a committee to provide direction and practical input into the new Cunningham Quay development.

  • LEBTA has put substantial time and effort into the Trialling of a 'clean safe beach' swimming area in Cunningham Arm.

  • LEBTA provides a very good communication network thanks to Bill Ross of www.lakes-entrance.com including this website- www.lebta.com  Communication is virtually all done by emails to all members. This provides them with access to relevant activities and issues at hand for Lakes Entrance Businesses. For example the recent invitation for members to attend the feedback session on how the Shire can best utilize future natural disaster funding.

  • LEBTA has a commercial subscription to VECCI that is accessible to all members of LEBTA

  • This year LEBTA is continuing to manage the Lakes Entrance New Years Eve Sky Show.

  • LEBTA has offered support for other events such as the St Nicolas Festival and the Summer Music Festival

  • LEBTA intends to setup a Marketing committee that will inject funds into marketing campaigns such as the inserts available in the Latrobe and Pakenham newspapers. This is to help counter the Sapphire Coast inserts that we are continually bombarded with

  • Discounts are available for LEBTA members- for example VIC fees.

  • LEBTA provides a base to be able to network with other people in business facing similar challenges in promoting and expanding their businesses

Past and Ongoing Achievements

  • Preparation, production and distribution of an updated Town Brochure - 60,000 copies. Available end October 2001 and updated with Edition 2 in 2005.

  • Planning and construction of a Rotunda on Cunninghame foreshore.

  • Being a key player in lobbing the State Government not to bypass Lakes Entrance on the Princes Highway, but to create an alternative “Truck Route”. This point alone was a significant achievement and directly benefits all those tourist operators/shops etc which gain business from passing traffic.

  • New Year’s Eve entertainment. The fireworks displays are an ‘icon’ event and are getting better and this has been the eleventh successive year with free entertainment on the Foreshore.

  • The Twelve Days of Christmas business promotion.

  • Establishing a “Giving Tree”.

  • Purchase and erection of 130 Town Banners.

  • Tidy Towns 1995/1996/1997/1998/1999 and 2000.

  • Had input through Canberra with a submission on the Gas Pipeline enquiry.

  • Facilitated a Public Meeting regarding the feasibility of implementing a Hospital.

  • Operation of a free Courtesy Bus over the Christmas and Easter Holidays and also during special events.

  • Trialling a ‘clean beach’ swimming area in Cunninghame Arm.

  • Production of a Prospectus for potential sponsors.

  • Had significant input into the Regional Development Plan, to try and ensure that Lakes Entrance’s interests were looked after.

  • Board representation (2) on Regional Peak Business and Tourism Association.

  • Facilitated the establishment of the Skateboard and Bike Club and application for planning permits have been displayed.

  • Application to Council for an electronic Liquid Crystal Display sign which would welcome people to Lakes Entrance and also give a “What’s On” message to be erected.

  • Obtained support from the Shire for the extension of Public lighting east of the Footbridge.

  • Liaison with journalists/RACV staff etc on providing information about our town and conducting familiarisation tour.

  • Involvement with the Lakes Summer Festival.

  • Many activities during this time in which LEBTA played a supportive role.

  • We have in excess of 30 objectives which we hope to attain either during the short term or take a lobbying position as a longer term strategy.

  • Development of Business Strategic Plan.

  • Development of 3 year Strategic Business Plan.

  • Liaison with Shire, Destinations Gippsland Limited and Tourism Victoria and Tourism Alliance regarding issues of community interest and concern.

  • Coordinating role re submissions on East Gippsland Shire Town Boundaries Review.
