Lakes Entrance
Business Tourism Association Inc. is an incorporated body formed in 1996 to
replace the former Lakes Entrance Chamber of Commerce.
“The purposes of the Association
are:
1. (a)
To promote and devise
opportunities for the development and expansion of businesses in Lakes
Entrance and surrounds.
1. (b)
To promote and develop tourism
in Lakes Entrance and surrounds.
2. Do all things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the
purposes and the exercise of the powers of the Association”.

As a
member of the Association you obtain access to, and contribute to the
promotion of commerce, business, industry and tourism in Town of Lakes
Entrance and surrounds.
Participation in activities of East Gippsland Business and Tourism Association,
representation on the Shire Tourism Advisory Board.

updates on LEBTA activities by email distribution

Take part
in the business and tourism marketing/promotions of the area both local
and regional.

Networking
with other people in business facing similar challenges in promoting and
expanding their businesses.

Participating in a vast range of activities all associated with improving
the ‘lot’ of people in business and commerce.
LEBTA
manages two units (currently free of charge) that are used by The
Cunningham Arm Medical Centre and Gippsland Lakes Community Health to
provide free, or nominal fee accommodation to temporary stay Doctors. This
service is extremely important to all the community.

LEBTA
undertakes Australia day responsibilities with the support of the Lions
Club and Shire.

LEBTA has
agreed to be the Auspice agency for a proposed project to get a Safe Taxi
Rank for after hours during times of high concern in Lakes Entrance.

LEBTA works
tirelessly to liaise and to put the best interests of Lakes Entrance
businesses forward to relevant government departments. For example, LEBTA
is currently working with the Shire, Vic Roads and Tourism Victoria to
improve the signage around the Nowa Nowa Bypass. Also recently forming a
committee to provide direction and practical input into the new Cunningham
Quay development.

LEBTA has put
substantial time and effort into the Trialling of a 'clean safe beach'
swimming area in Cunningham Arm.

LEBTA provides
a very good communication network thanks to Bill Ross of
www.lakes-entrance.com including this website- www.lebta.com
Communication is virtually all done by emails to all members. This
provides them with access to relevant activities and issues at hand for
Lakes Entrance Businesses. For example the recent invitation for members
to attend the feedback session on how the Shire can best utilize future
natural disaster funding.

LEBTA has a
commercial subscription to VECCI that is accessible to all members of
LEBTA

This year
LEBTA is continuing to manage the Lakes Entrance New Years Eve Sky Show.

LEBTA has
offered support for other events such as the St Nicolas Festival and the
Summer Music Festival

LEBTA intends
to setup a Marketing committee that will inject funds into marketing
campaigns such as the inserts available in the Latrobe and Pakenham
newspapers. This is to help counter the Sapphire Coast inserts that we are
continually bombarded with

Discounts are
available for LEBTA members- for example VIC fees.

LEBTA provides
a base to be able to network with other people in business facing similar
challenges in promoting and expanding their businesses

Past and
Ongoing Achievements

Preparation, production and distribution of an updated Town Brochure -
60,000 copies. Available end October 2001 and updated with Edition 2 in
2005.
Planning
and construction of a Rotunda on Cunninghame foreshore.
Being a
key player in lobbing the State Government not to bypass Lakes Entrance on
the Princes Highway, but to create an alternative “Truck Route”. This
point alone was a significant achievement and directly benefits all those
tourist operators/shops etc which gain business from passing traffic.
New Year’s
Eve entertainment. The fireworks displays are an ‘icon’ event and are
getting better and this has been the eleventh successive year with free
entertainment on the Foreshore.
The Twelve
Days of Christmas business promotion.
Establishing a “Giving Tree”.
Purchase
and erection of 130 Town Banners.
Tidy Towns
1995/1996/1997/1998/1999 and 2000.
Had input
through Canberra with a submission on the Gas Pipeline enquiry.
Facilitated a Public Meeting regarding the feasibility of implementing a
Hospital.
Operation
of a free Courtesy Bus over the Christmas and Easter Holidays and also
during special events.
Trialling a
‘clean beach’ swimming area in Cunninghame Arm.
Production
of a Prospectus for potential sponsors.
Had
significant input into the Regional Development Plan, to try and ensure
that Lakes Entrance’s interests were looked after.
Board
representation (2) on Regional Peak Business and Tourism Association.
Facilitated the establishment of the Skateboard and Bike Club and
application for planning permits have been displayed.
Application to Council for an electronic Liquid Crystal Display sign which
would welcome people to Lakes Entrance and also give a “What’s On” message
to be erected.
Obtained
support from the Shire for the extension of Public lighting east of the
Footbridge.
Liaison
with journalists/RACV staff etc on providing information about our town
and conducting familiarisation tour.

Involvement with the Lakes Summer Festival.
Many
activities during this time in which LEBTA played a supportive role.
We have in
excess of 30 objectives which we hope to attain either during the short
term or take a lobbying position as a longer term strategy.
Development of Business Strategic Plan.
Development of 3 year Strategic Business Plan.
Liaison
with Shire, Destinations Gippsland Limited and Tourism Victoria and Tourism
Alliance regarding issues of community
interest and concern.
Coordinating role re submissions on East Gippsland Shire Town Boundaries
Review.
